AKRON, OH (April 8, 2010) – The Lippman School, located at White Pond Drive and Interstate 77, recently announced the implementation of an updated curriculum structure as well as a name change to reflect its newly established curriculum offerings. The school, previously called The Jerome Lippman Jewish Community Day School, has expanded its curriculum to offer students a choice between two focus areas of study.
The Lippman School now offers two focus areas of study, allowing students to choose from World Cultures and Spanish Language or Jewish Studies and Hebrew Language. While maintaining the universal values of Judaism and merit-based education on which the school was founded, Lippman weaves a global perspective throughout all classes and programs. The school expanded its curriculum to provide learning experiences that enable students to understand and embrace different people, cultures and ways of thinking.
“We understand the importance of opening our student’s eyes to the world around them,” said Principal Linda Brotsky, “We feel an obligation to prepare our students to be knowledgeable and ethical leaders and citizens of the world.”
Brotsky also said major goals of the new curriculum are to help students develop an understanding of the interdependence among nations in the world today, identify the values that define and connect cultures and acquire the values, knowledge and skills that will help them to successfully navigate within a modern, global society.
The Lippman School, which serves children grades kindergarten through eight, has Core Studies Classes, Areas of Focus classes and Expanded Curriculum classes. Core Studies are the basic academic classes with an added global perspective. Areas of Focus allow each student to choose if they would rather study World Cultures and Spanish Language or Jewish Studies and Hebrew Language during breakout class time. Expanded Curriculum includes class work in technology, music, physical education and visual and performing arts.
The Lippman School, which has an adjoining campus with the Shaw JCC, provides swimming, physical education and a theatre area in the JCC’s modern facilities.
“Due to our shared campus with the Shaw JCC, our students are afforded the luxury of using state-of-the-art facilities like the pools, gymnasium, stage and outdoor sports fields,” Brotsky said. “Another wonderful benefit is the before and after care provided by the Shaw JCC is in our building, so Lippman students never have to leave the campus – which helps working parents feel at ease.”
The Shaw JCC is offering a 50-percent discount on family memberships to any family who has a newly enrolled student at The Lippman School. They also offer discounts to current student’s families.
“Our new motto is ‘Global perspective. Individual focus.’,” said Board President Trish Crane. “We’ve spent a year working through curriculum updates and new program ideas to bring us to the place where that motto says it all - we teach our students from a global vantage point, while staff continues focusing on their individual needs and learning styles.”
The Lippman School is offering an open house on Sunday, April 25 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at which families may tour the campus, meet the staff, learn about the new curriculum and get a first-hand view of the computer lab, science lab, art studio and JCC physical education facilities.
The school’s first enrollment deadline for the 2010-11 academic year is April 30. Individual tours for interested families may be scheduled at any time by calling 330-836-0419.

The Lippman School
The Lippman School was founded in 1965 as a Jewish Day School. A cornerstone of the modern school is the diversity of cultures, religions, backgrounds and ethnicities among the student population. Students learn key values such as trust, tolerance, openness, kindness, respect, responsibility, honesty and humility. We believe these values have no borders or limits and are the foundation for developing strong global citizens and leaders. The Lippman School not only welcomes students of any race, religion, national or ethnic origin, it thrives on the opportunity for students to learn about a variety of cultures first hand from fellow students.
