AKRON, OH (July 26, 2011) - The Veterans Service Commission of Summit County (VSC) will host its second annual Veteran Job & Career Fair for local veterans on Wednesday, August 17, from 1 - 3 p.m. at its headquarters, located at 1060 E. Waterloo Rd. in Akron. The fair is open to all veterans and their dependants.

Representatives from approximately 25 local employers will be on hand to speak with veterans, as will representatives from the AMVETS Career Center and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Veterans will be coached on resume tips, job search and interview skills, and will be introduced to both AMVETS education options and various free online career development courses.

"In a tough economy, any differentiating characteristic is attractive to employers, and it's our goal to assist veterans in realizing the truly unique skill set that they have to offer, regardless of their chosen profession," said David Burden, project manager at the VSC. "This fair gives veterans the opportunity to access a wide range of free resources, from career development tools to expert advice and face-time with hiring employers. Whatever stage they're currently at in their job search, they'll find help at the Veteran Job & Career Fair - we have something for everyone!"

While the event is free and walk-ins will be accepted, registrations are encouraged. Veterans may register by visiting www.VSCsummitOH.us or calling 330-564-1492. Public transportation is available through the Akron METRO bus #2, via the Arlington route. For a schedule, visit www.AkronMetro.org.
