Cascade Capital Loan Service Makes it Easy to be Green

CASCADE QUARTERLY (Summer 2007) - Things continue to come up roses - and perennials, and shrubs, and trees - for Suncrest Garden Centers, thanks to a solid 31 years in business as a full-service garden and landscaping service and help from Cascade Capital Corp.

Suncrest recently expanded its facilities on 8 acres of land in Boston Township with the help of a $354,000 SBA 504 loan obtained through Cascade Capital.

Suncrest President and Co-founder, Richard Haury, said he had come to trust Cascade to easily and quickly process his loan application after working with them on another loan 10 years ago.

"I always found them to be helpful in any of the processing. They're available to answer questions and get you through it," Haury said. "It's not something you do as a typical business routine so there's always some novelty to it. It's nice to have that support."

The total $855,000 expansion included doubling the size of the retail garden center, adding 6,000 square feet of greenhouse space, expanding the retail center by 1,500 square feet, doubling the size of the corporate building, adding a design studio and paving the customer parking lot.

Haury said the diversity of services - from commercial and residential landscape development, design and maintenance to a "boutique-like" retail garden center - have kept the company afloat despite the presence of the larger chains.

"That's how we separate ourselves from the big-box boys," he said. Suncrest employs about 110 people during peak growing season, and about 40 during the off season.
